I searched my grandfather’s personal effects for the artifact. I have no doubt ,of course, that he was in possession of it when he died, but somewhere between the accident and where he was pronounced dead and when they gathered his things into a cardboard box, the small golden pendent went missing.

When people ask about the magic I do, they are usually asking about little parlor tricks and flashy illusions. That has become the default expectation of magic. Most people cannot comprehend the total alteration of reality that magic can be. My magic tends to end in real, if intangible, miracles.

Walking on clouds is much easier than it seems to the casual observer. You just have to find good footholds. That’s the hardest part. It requires great quiet and slow concentration. Clouds become mist when faced with a loud noise and force. That’s why airplanes are so loud and fast.

Being a goblin king is almost as far from that damned muppet movie as is possible. I don’t know where they came up with that bunk. I’m a GOBLIN. Sure I eat human children. I’ll eat anything as long as it’s meat. And I’m a king of what? Goblins. Big whoop.

Mostly empty space. All matter is mostly empty space, with tiny molecules vibrating at speeds far beyond mortal ken. To walk between walls, or worlds one has to forget about the science, and instead get that it’s all just empty space. Walking through is a matter of timing just right.

Do not look directly into the coat. Part of the reason it’s so effective is that it’s existing in multiple dimensions at once. While that defends against extra-dimensional horrors like nobody’s business, it makes the coat unstable and maddening. Maddening, like you might go mad. Don’t look into the coat.

I’m not going to mince words. She was by no means a virgin. Seriously, not a virgin if you know what I mean. About as far from virginal maiden as a girl can get. So she enlisted me to help capture the unicorn the old fashioned, violent, way. Tranquilizer dart.

Something for nothing, that’s the nature of magick. For the modern urban magician the real problem is how to ask the powers for what you really want. Oftentimes we get what we requested, and we realize it’s nowhere near what we want. The universe has a mean sense of humor.

Magic rings have grown quite rare. There was a time when it was in fashion to go flinging these most precious artifacts into volcanos or forge them into one super-ring. Nowadays, any ring, with any minor power was priceless. My new ring kept coffee in my hand just right.
